Picking the wrong vehicle for your Umrah trip is one of the most common mistakes pilgrims make. You book a sedan for five people, get to the airport, and suddenly realize three large suitcases, two carry-ons, and a Zamzam water container do not fit in the boot. Someone ends up holding bags on their lap for two hours. Not a great start to a spiritual trip.
This post tells you how much luggage each vehicle holds. Read this before you book anything.
Sonata Luggage Capacity
The Hyundai Sonata is a four-seater sedan. The boot fits two large suitcases comfortably. If your bags are medium-sized, you can squeeze in a third. A couple travelling with standard luggage, one large suitcase each plus a small carry-on, will have no issues at all.
It gets tight when families try to use a Sonata for four passengers all carrying full-sized bags. The boot simply does not have that kind of space. Four people with four large suitcases is too much for a Sonata.
If your group is four adults with proper luggage, move up to a bigger vehicle. The Sonata works best for two to three passengers travelling with sensible bag sizes.
Camry Luggage Capacity
The Toyota Camry is very similar to the Sonata in terms of boot space. It seats four passengers and handles two to three medium suitcases in the boot without any trouble. A couple with two large suitcases and a small bag between them will be perfectly fine.
Like the Sonata, the Camry struggles when all four seats are full and everyone is carrying big bags. Small families of three where one passenger is a child travelling light can usually manage. But four adults each with a large suitcase and a carry-on is pushing it. The Camry luggage space is practical for small groups who pack reasonably.

Staria Luggage Capacity
The Hyundai Staria is a seven-seater minivan and this is where luggage capacity gets genuinely useful for families. The Staria luggage space behind the rear seats handles four to five large suitcases without anyone holding bags inside the cabin.
For a family of five or six doing Umrah with proper luggage, the Staria is one of the best options available. Everyone sits properly, bags go in the boot, and nobody’s uncomfortable for the duration of the drive.
Families travelling with Zamzam water on the return journey should keep this in mind too. A couple of Zamzam containers with suitcases still fit in the Staria without a problem.
GMC XL Luggage Capacity
The GMC Yukon XL is in a different league when it comes to luggage space. It seats seven passengers across three rows, and the boot behind the third row is genuinely large. Five to six large suitcases fit back there with room to spare.
For families of six or seven doing a Makkah to Madinah transfer with full luggage, the GMC XL handles it all in one vehicle. Corporate travellers with multiple bags and suit carriers also find the GMC boot practical.
On the return from Umrah, when bags are heavier with gifts and Zamzam, the GMC does not break a sweat. It is the most capable vehicle in the fleet when luggage volume is a real concern.

Hiace Luggage Capacity
The Toyota Hiace seats up to twelve passengers. The luggage area underneath or behind the rear seats handles six to eight large suitcases depending on the configuration. Groups of eight to ten people with standard luggage fit without anyone sitting awkwardly with bags on their lap.
The Hi Roof version of the Hiace has the same luggage capacity but extra cabin headroom, which makes a difference on longer drives.
Pilgrims who are tall or who find low rooflines uncomfortable prefer the Hi Roof specifically for this reason. Either way, the Hiace luggage space is built for groups and it delivers that.
Coaster Luggage Capacity
The Coaster is the largest vehicle Umrah Passenger runs. It seats up to eighteen passengers and the luggage storage underneath the vehicle is substantial. Ten to twelve large suitcases fit in the under-floor storage without using any cabin space at all.
Tour groups and large Umrah jamaats use the Coaster specifically because of this combination. Eighteen people, all their luggage, all in one vehicle. No second car needed, no splitting the group.
The Coaster luggage space for Umrah groups is genuinely one of the most practical arrangements available for large parties travelling together between cities.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage Capacity |
| Sonata / Camry | 4 | 2 to 3 large suitcases |
| Staria | 7 | 10 large suitcases |
| GMC XL | 7 | 7 large suitcases |
| Hiace / Hi Roof | 12 | 16 large suitcases |
| Coaster | 18 | 25 large suitcases |
Which Vehicle Should You Book?
Book based on two things. How many people are travelling and how much luggage you are carrying combined. Do not just count passengers; count bags too.
A family of four with light luggage can manage in a Sonata or Camry. The same family with four large suitcases each should go for a Staria or GMC. A group of ten people should be in a Hiace at minimum. A large tour group of fifteen or more belongs in the Coaster.
One mistake people make is booking based on seats and forgetting about bags. You end up with a vehicle that fits everyone but leaves no room for luggage. Think about both before you confirm.
