Performing Umrah requires you to enter the state of Ihram before reaching Makkah. You cannot just wear Ihram anywhere you want.

Maqam e Miqat refers to these sacred boundary points around Makkah where pilgrims must wear Ihram and make their niyat Umrah.

Crossing these points without Ihram invalidates your Umrah. Umrah Passenger provides you with complete information about all Miqat points so you can prepare properly for your blessed journey.

5 Miqat Points and Their Locations

1. Dhul Hulaifah (For Pilgrims from Madinah)

Dhul Hulaifah Miqat mosque, also known as Masjid Ash-Shajarah or Bir Ali, is the Miqat from Madinah. This is the largest and most frequently used Miqat point. It is situated about 7 kilometers from Madinah and approximately 450 kilometers from Makkah.

Pilgrims traveling from Madinah to Makkah stop here to wear Ihram and perform two rakats of prayer before making their niyat.

The mosque has excellent facilities, including separate areas for men and women, bathrooms, and shops for Ihram purchases.

2. Al-Juhfah (For Pilgrims from Syria, Egypt, and North Africa)

Meeqat Al Juhfah serves pilgrims coming from Syria, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, and other northern regions. The original Al-Juhfah location is now abandoned, so pilgrims use Rabigh as a substitute Miqat.

Rabigh is about 186 kilometers northwest of Makkah along the coastal highway from Jeddah.

Most international flights land in Jeddah, making this the Miqat from Jeddah to Makkah for many pilgrims. The mosque here provides complete facilities for changing into Ihram.

3. Qarn al-Manazil (For Pilgrims from Najd and East)

Qarn al-Manazil, also called As-Sayl Al-Kabir, is the Miqat for people coming from Najd, Riyadh, and eastern regions, including the UAE and other Gulf countries. This point is located about 94 kilometers east of Makkah.

Pilgrims from Pakistan often use this Miqat if they fly into Riyadh or travel through eastern Saudi Arabia. The Miqat from the Pakistan route depends on your entry point into Saudi Arabia.

4. Yalamlam (For Pilgrims from Yemen and South)

Yalamlam Miqat serves pilgrims traveling from Yemen and southern regions. This boundary point is located approximately 54 kilometers south of Makkah.

The Yalamlam Miqat to Makkah distance makes it one of the closest Miqat points to the holy city. Modern facilities at this location help pilgrims prepare for Ihram comfortably.

Yalamlam Miqat is particularly important for pilgrims coming from African countries south of Saudi Arabia and those arriving through southern routes.

5. Dhat Irq (For Pilgrims from Iraq and the Northeast)

Dhat Irq is the Miqat for pilgrims coming from Iraq and the northeastern regions. This point is located about 94 kilometers northeast of Makkah. Though less used today due to regional circumstances, it remains an official Miqat point.

Pilgrims from Iran and some parts of Central Asia may use this Miqat depending on their travel route. The location has basic facilities for Ihram preparation.

Special Miqat Points Near Makkah

Masjid Aisha (Taneem)

Masjid Ayesha is a Miqat point, but with specific conditions. Masjid Aisha, located in Taneem, about 7 kilometers from Makkah, serves as a Miqat only for people already in Makkah who want to perform Umrah again.

Residents of Makkah and people who entered without Ihram use this mosque to wear Ihram for Umrah. You cannot use it as your first Miqat when coming from outside Makkah.

Masjid Ji’rana

Masjid Jarana is situated between Makkah and Taif, about 16 kilometers from Makkah. Like Masjid Aisha, it serves people already in Makkah who want to perform an additional Umrah. The Prophet (PBUH) wore Ihram here after the Battle of Hunayn.

This mosque is less crowded than Masjid Aisha, making it a good alternative for repeat Umrah during your stay in Makkah.

Miqat from Taif

Taif has its own Miqat point called Qarn al-Manazil (As-Sayl). The Miqat Taif serves people living in or traveling through Taif city.

Many pilgrims visit Taif during their Saudi Arabia trip. If you plan to return to Makkah for Umrah after visiting Taif, you must wear Ihram at the Taif Meeqat before descending toward Makkah.
